I’m finding some interesting things while processing all of these land transactions that took place in the 1940s and 1950s. Most of what I have been working with so far has been deed transfers through sale or gift. The deeds that are gifted have such quaint wording. They say, “in consideration of $1.00, love and affection.” I doubt that you will ever find anything about love in our legal documents today!
Also, I ran across a Last Will and Testament. In it, the lady had listed all of her children and stated what land she was leaving them, etc. When she got to her last daughter, she wrote, “And to______ in consideration of her lack of affection towards me, I leave the sum of $1.00.” What an insult?!
Today, I decided to ask a co-worker if there was a different way that I could go home that would maybe bypass some traffic on I-5. She gave me an alternate route, and I am very glad to say that it saved me a whole 15 minutes! It usually takes me 50 minutes to make my way back Downtown, and today it only took 35. Isn’t life great?
