Seattle Symphony

Last night, I went to the Seattle Symphony at Benaroya Hall.  This is only located one block from my apartment!  The night began with a performance of “A Night on Bald Mountain” by Modest Mussorgosky.  This was a great way to begin the evening.  They then proceeded with special guest violinist Leila Josefowicz performing Violin Concerto, “Concentric Paths,” Op. 24 by 21st century British composer Thomas Ades.  This was an incredible piece of music!  It was nice to hear a new composition.  They finished the night with Igor Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite.  This was a ballet suite that was written in 1910 for the Ballets Russes in Paris. It was an excellent way to end the evening.  The audience gave them a 5-minute standing ovation!

I hope to go to the performance of Holst’s The Planets in a couple of weeks.  This is a great way to spend the summer!
